Edward Roscoe Murrow, an American broadcaster, once said, “Learn your language well and command it well, and you will have the first component to life.” Attention all spellers! It’s time to demonstrate your command of the English language by participating in the annual American Academy Spelling Bee.
Qualifying for the School Spelling Bee
If you are in grades 5-8 and would like to compete, then mark these dates on your calendar. There will be a written test administered after school from 3:40 to 4:00 PM on Monday, November 18th and Tuesday, November 19th after school in Ms. Teeple’s room #316 on the third floor. Bring a pencil and lined paper to the test. All participants must pass the written test in order to advance to the school competition. If you cannot make either of those times, please contact Ms. Teeple to schedule an alternative test date.
The American Academy Spelling Bee will be held on Friday, December 13th from 8:30 to 10:00 AM. Winners of the school competition will advance to the Douglas County District Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at Castle Rock Middle School, and winners of the district competition will advance to the State Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 at the Colorado Convention Center.
Good luck and spell well!

It's time to prepare for High School!
8th graders, please attend the High School Fair on October 10th. Be aware that some schools require formal recommendations from your teachers. Please see the Downloads section for the HS recommendation Form. Due to the number of letters that our teachers have to fill out, please abide to the following expectations: • Students MUST submit a completed, printed form to their teachers during Homeroom – even if the recommendation is completed online.
• Students must submit the form/request by November 20, 2013. Requests received after that will not be completed.
