Fourth Grade News!
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS! • Please make sure you have turned in a permission slip for the Devil’s Head trip for this coming Friday. Remember, all students will need a sack lunch. • We have been amazed by all the remarkable and thoughtful gifts of appreciation. You all have made us feel so special this week. We enjoyed all the food, treats, gifts, and letters that were given to us. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful group of kids this year. It has been such a delight getting to know our students and watching them grow this year. Thank you all for spoiling us this week. We appreciated your thoughtfulness and kindness very much. • Thank you to all the volunteers who chaperoned for our We the People trip this week. We had a wonderful time. • We would like to send out a HUGE thank you to all of the parents for supporting Patriot’s Day. Whether you sent in materials, donated money, spent time at home preparing materials, or spent your day volunteering, we appreciate you very much. These are days that our students will remember long after they have left our classroom. None of this would be possible without your help. Thank you for making this a special day for us and our students.

Language Arts:
• In Shurley this week, we will continue working on pattern 4. Students have done a great job this year in Shurley. We have been very impressed. Pattern 4 sentences are sentences that contain a linking verb. We will have another Shurley unit this week, and the last week of school they will have a Shurley final. Our research papers will be finished up by the end of this next week. This is a big project and will go in as a double test grade. We have been working on these for a significant amount of time, and this is their last benchmark for 4th grade.
Reading:
In reading Ms. Hunt and Ms. Anderson’s class are reading Robinson Crusoe. Please check your students’ IC account for due dates on assignments, projects, and exams. In Ms. Bostick, Ms. Sampson, Ms. Grupe, and Ms. Gould’s class we are finishing Gulliver’s Travels. Please check IC for dates on assignments, projects, and finals
History:
In history we will be focusing on Colorado history for the remainder of the year. We will cover early natives in Colorado, settling the land, mountain men, the gold rush, and our statehood. Students will be creating a timeline with facts and pictures representing our Colorado history. There will be a final test for Colorado history on Tuesday, May 21st for all classes.
Science
Science has been very exciting this week. We observed our two controlled experiments showing the range of tolerance for water and salt in basic farm crops. We will have a quiz on our plant investigations on Monday. The students should use their vocabulary boxes to study for this quiz. Next week, we will begin to study our last investigation all about environmental factors. The students will observe mealworms in their life cycles and isopods.
